Summer Camps

Engaging Children in Tucson’s History

We can’t wait to share our popular summer camp program with YOU! We will engage your children in Tucson’s local history, games, hands-on activities, discovery, all-around fun…

AND some cool in the pool.

(Children will enjoy part of the day at the Fort Lowell Splash Pad or at the Fort Lowell Pool.  All children will be tested for swimming skills by pool staff and will be required to wear floaties if deemed necessary.)

Best camps ever! I noticed during camp that my kiddo’s behavior was fantastic during the two weeks when he got home each day. That tells me how engaging camp was for him.

Boy, oh boy! This has been one of the greatest camps my son has attended! The content of the camp was FABULOUS! Each day I was eager to hear about his day and learn something new.

8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday
(Note these camps are 90 minutes longer than those offered at the Presidio Museum and include pool time.)

Member price: $270
Non-member price: $290
10% off for sibling

Registration closes when camp sells out or the Thursday before the first day of camp.

WEEK OF JUNE 16-20: Life on the Frontier
What was life truly like for your grandparents or other ancestors? How was it different and how was it the same?  Campers will have a blast exploring lifestyles of the past and get a secret history lesson without even knowing it!  We will focus on how people lived in the Tucson area before statehood.  Campers will play baseball in vintage uniforms following the old rules. They will get dirty making adobe bricks. They will try out toys and games that DON’T include batteries and they will get grossed out by early medical practices.
Oh!  And when they get hot and tired, we’ll cool off at the splash pad or the pool!

Recommended for ages 8-14

WEEK OF JULY 7-11: Hands-On History

Let’s experiment!  This camp explores how science and experimentation are used to reveal the past. Campers will use experiential archaeology, tree ring dating, and ancient technologies to discover the secrets of history.  They will learn how arrowheads are made (flintknapping), analyze pottery, make pottery, try tree ring dating (dendrochronology), make paint and natural dyes and more.
Oh!  And when they get hot and tired, we’ll cool off at the splash pad or the pool!

Recommended for ages 9-14
