Armory Park Tour-Nov 1st

November 1st 10 am - 12 noon
$20/member, $35/non-member

The Armory Park neighborhood is south of Broadway and east of Stone. Buildings started to go up in this area with the arrival of the railroad in 1880.

This 2-hour, 0.5-mile tour explores the exteriors of historic public buildings including the Carnegie Free Library, Scottish Rite Cathedral, Safford School, Willard Hotel, and the Temple of Music and Art. We are scheduled to see the interior of the beautiful 1878 Blenman Inn.

Personalities discussed include Charles Rivers Drake, Charles Blenman, Isabella Greenway, Mattie Dreyfus Heineman, and renowned architects Henry C. Trost and A. G. Rockfellow. This is a good tour for people who want more information and less walking.

***The tour will meet across the street from the Blenman Inn (shown above at 204 S. Scott Avenue); So, other side of the street from the Inn. Free on-street parking is available somewhere, but metered parking is no longer free on Saturdays, and now has a two-hour restriction; So, parking lots & garages may be more suitable when going on a tour or other business.
