Congress Street: Tucson’s Street of Dreams with historian Ken Scoville

Discover the commercial development of downtown Tucson and why Congress Street is the street it is today.  In 1870, east of Stone was getting “out of town.”  The impending arrival of the railroad caused land speculation to flourish and ongoing tension between West and East Congress Street merchants after 1880.  Movie theaters, the first high-rise, hotels and areas with “bad reputations” will be discussed.  Given the time of the year, we will also talk about Christmas time in the Old Pueblo.  Meet at the entrnce to Presidio Museum (196 N. Court Avenue). We will end the tour at the train station.  Register above. $25
