Cathay Williams: A Female Buffalo Soldier by Floyd Gray

Cathay Williams, an African American woman, successfully posed as a man and served in the US Army in the 1860s. Floyd Gray will discuss her experiences as a Buffalo Soldier, serving in the 38th Infantry (one of six segregated, all-black regiments) during the Civil War. 

Floyd Gray is an Adjunct Researcher in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Arizona. He serves as the Vice President on the Board of Friends of Tucson's Birthplace. He is also the Treasurer and Historian for the Greater Southern Arizona Area Chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry Association.
