AT FORT LOWELL: Life in the Old West

Life in the Old West - History in the Park at Fort Lowell

January 24, 2026
10 am - 1 pm

Included with admission

Ever wonder about life in the Old West? See how people lived, worked, and played in historic Tucson. Think people were better behaved? Think again!

Experience the music of the time period with an 11 am concert by the 4th Cavalry Regimental Band of Fort Lowell.

Visitors can learn about various positions in the army, which include the camp cooks, cavalry, blacksmiths, and infantry. Civilian life will also be represented as visitors can take on our faro dealer, learn about Tucson's first professional teacher, the hazards of being a housewife, and the life of a peddler. Drinking, gambling, and Tucson's red-light district could also get civilians and Fort Lowell’s soldiers into plenty of trouble!
