Travel: New Mexico’s El Camino Real de la Tierra Adentro Tour

May 18, 2022 - May 24, 2022

Follow the old Spanish royal road and take part in a regional exploration into the Hispanic heritage of our eastern neighbor, New Mexico. By learning about the history in the places they happened across the state, trip companions will gain insight into how New Mexico’s natural and cultural landscapes shaped a distinct Nuevomexicano heritage to compare with the rooted Sonoran culture southern Arizona is known for. The tour will roughly follow the UNESCO World Heritage designated route El Camino Real de la Tierra Adentro with an eastern detour to see the White Sands National Park, Lincoln Historic Site, and the Salinas Pueblo Missions on the way north to the state capital. The 6-night, 7-day trip will include overnight stops in Mesilla and Ruidoso with 4 nights accommodation in Santa Fe as well as a day trip from the capital to Taos and the Santuario of Chimayo.

COVID Precautions:
Our tour operator, South of the Border Tours, has taken enhanced health and safety measures to protect tour participants and staff. Motor coaches are certified through the UMA (United Motor Coach Association) AssurClean program that include sanitization and disinfecting protocols and procedures that follow CDC guidelines. For the greatest peace of mind and protection, we require that all participants be vaccinated against Covid-19, unless there is an underlying health condition, in which case we will need to be informed beforehand and will require a negative test result within 72 hours of departure. Should you develop Covid-19 symptoms during the trip,  you will need to isolate and arrange for testing at your own expense. You may need to arrange transportation home, or to catch up with the trip when cleared for travel. You will be expected to follow masking and social distancing guidelines consistent with CDC and local requirements at the time of travel, or when required by our group leaders. Please note that these measures are subject to change at any time and may be altered as new information about the virus becomes available. Our group size will not be more than 24 participants plus 2 staff on a 49-passenger motor coach to allow for social distancing.

There are many factors to consider when planning a trip right now and situations around the world are changing almost every day, we therefore strongly encourage travel insurance.  You are welcome to choose any travel insurance company, however, Allianz Travel Insurance is our preferred company and they include a Cancel for Any Reason policy, which covers Covid-19. Should you present positive for Covid immediately prior to or during a trip, insurance can cover your costs for isolation/cancellation. Please visit their website to review policies that are available at www.allianztravelinsurance.com. Should you sign up with them, please use South of the Border’s ACCAM number which will be required. The number is F029755.
