Today’s event features Escape the Presidio escape room and a tortilla-making class at 11 a.m.!

Escape the Presidio! (10 am – 2 pm)
The Presidio turns into an escape room! Visitors must find the valuable red dye the Spanish have a monopoly on and smuggle this precious commodity out of the fort!

Tortilla-making demo at 11 a.m.
Visitors will learn how to make the masa, roll it out, and cook the raw tortillas. Visitors will be given the recipe and list of ingredients to take home.

In addition to these activities, visitors will learn how plants have always played a large role in the lives of people. Whether they are used for food, medicine, clothing, or dyes, plants have a significant role in everyday life historically and today.

The day’s activities include:
*Samples of plant-based foods: tortillas and horchata
*Natural dyes
*Weaving
*Using cochineal (natural red dye) to paint
*Spanish military drills
*Blacksmith demo
