Elise Moore tells the story of two amazing women who played major roles in the Civil War. Hear about Elizabeth Van Lew, an abolitionist, who ran a sophisticated spy ring for the Union from Richmond, Virginia. Mary Bowser, a former slave, was able to infiltrate the home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis by posing as an enslaved servant.
Moore is a member of the Tucson Civil War Roundtable. She has served as a chaplain for a homeless shelter; given talks in prisons, university classes, to youth groups and care facilities; and organized interfaith conferences, inter-religious programs, adult literacy programs, and an after-school program for minority youth.
The Tucson Civil War Roundtable aims to promote interest and educate the public in the history of our country, primarily the Civil War, and foster appreciation for the sacrifice of others for freedom.
