With the ongoing process of Padre Kino’s elevation to sainthood in the Catholic Church, this pioneer explorer is now receiving international attention and acclaim. Father Greg Adolf of the Southwestern Mission Research Center and Kino Heritage Society will give an overview of Padre Kino’s life (1645-1711) and extraordinary range of activities during his 24 years in the Pimeria Alta of southern Arizona and northern Sonora. He will also discuss his continuing impact on the cultures and the self-understanding of the people in the area.
Father Greg Adolf is the pastor of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Sierra Vista and a member of the Kino Heritage Society. He graduated in 1970 from he University of Note Dame and from the Lutheran School of Theology-Chicago in 1974 and was ordained into the Lutheran ministry. In 1991, he was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Tucson. Fr. Greg as a member of the Southwest Mission Research Center (SMRC) has led tours of Padre Kino’s missions in Sonora for the past 30 years. He is active with Kino Heritage Society and the Diocese of Tucson in promoting the cause of Padre Kino’s canonization and gives presentations throughout Arizona to bring awareness of Padre Kino and his place in our region’s history.
