Living History Day: Tucson’s Irish Connection

In 1775, Irishman Hugo O’Conór, a captain of the Spanish army, signed the proclamation to build the Presidio San AgustÃn. Celebrate Hugo’s Irish ancestry and Tucson’s Irish roots with an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration, including:
**Irish soda bread and green horchata
**Celtic tartans display
**St. Brigid’s Cross Irish craft
**Irish lace demonstrations
**Display on the 88th New York Volunteers Irish Brigade, an infantry brigade made up of Irish Americans serving the Union during the Civil War
Schedule:
10 am-12 pm  Traditional Irish and Spanish music by El Camino Ancho
10:45 am     Lecture on Hugo O’Conór
11:45 am     Repeat of Lecture on O’Conór
1-2 pm      The Out of Kilters, a traditional Celtic band
In addition, a variety of demonstrations may include blacksmithing, soldier drills and cannon fire, weaving, handmade tortilla tasting and more.
